"Cast and Cut" scholarship holder wins the German competition award in Oberhausen again!

Ulu Braun wins first prize at Germany's oldest and most renowned short film festival with his short film "Die Herberge".

After "Cast and Cut" scholarship holder Susann Maria Hempel already won alongside the German Short Film Award in Oberhausen in 2014 with her film " Seven times a day we lament our lot and at night we get up not to dream", Ulu Braun was able to accept the coveted prize in 2017.

Justification of the jury of the German Competition:

In a virtual camera-travelling, the possibilities of new mediality are exhausted. Real shots of people and objects find themselves in a digitally generated post-apocalyptic panorama, in which they become protagonists and objets trouvés of a surreal chain of action. The video collage combines pop culture and Western myths with biblical narrative and biker culture and civilization trash with cultural set pieces. Subliminally, a fascinating, mesmerizing narrative critical of civilization emerges that resonates for a long time.

The success of the films reflect the uniqueness of the scholarship. On the jury are: Franziska Stünkel, Nils Loof, Henning Kunze, Anja Römisch and Jochen Coldewey. The project is supported by the Stftung Kulturregion and Nordmedia.
