Nils Loof received his first teaching assignment on the subject of Camera in 1999 while still a student at the Kunsthochschule Kassel. This course took place under Professor Hanno Baethe at the Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts in the multimedia course. Some time later, Nils Loof was brought to the University of Hildesheim by Professor Uwe Schrader and his technical assistant Matthias Thoma for a short film course. Loof was responsible for 5 short films as a supervisor, while the cameraman Thomas Mauch contributed to the projects as a lecturer for image design. Guest lectures, workshops and further teaching assignments with students, pupils and youth groups followed.
In 2009, Nils Loof received a substitute professorship at the Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts for the camera department. In addition to students of journalism, he also taught students of public relations and media design. This was followed by a long cooperation with Professor Eleonora Ringler Pascu, the acting class of the Western University of Timisoara in Romania. During this cooperation, Loof gave irregular workshops and seminars in Banat and initiated a lively exchange between students from Hanover and Timisoara. Interest in research and teaching at universities in other countries led Nils Loof to Cape Peninsula University in Cape Town. Together with Professor Wilfried Köpke from Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts and Professor Nic Theo from CPUT, a cooperation between the two universities was established that continues to this day. Loof gave a master class in Cape Town on the topic of mystery film and was the head of a summer school on sustainability.
Since 2016, Nils Loof has been a professor for film design in theory and practice in the Media Design department at the Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts.
